Astrology entered into medical practice in the Hellenistic period. One of the ways was through the classification of herbs according to planetary rulerships. This system of melothesia became a primary means for predicting which herbs would be useful given a particular medical case. These ideas continued to be used extensively well into the 19th century, and are still the basis behind traditional Unani (Persian) medicine today. In this lecture, Lee discusses these links between plants and planets, and how to use them.

The first book to be devoted entirely to a discussion of the classical technique of essential dignities. Lee ecovers an important ancient aspect of astrology which has become misunderstood and diluted; rulerships. By attempting to simplify astrology, contemporary sources have completely obscured the essential differences between planet, sign, and house. While the novice may benefit from this simplification, much of the old logic of the rulership system is covered up. By researching ancient manuscripts and sources, the ancient system of essential dignities or planetary rulerships is recovered and made available once again to the contemporary astrologer. What was nearly lost is given new power and the potential for understanding. A wealth of information is presented in a clear and concise way with many accurate charts.
