Budget Reports

Lee and any professional astrologer will tell you that a live astrology reading is the best possible mode, where you can interact with the astrologer and get your questions answered, or the answers explained fully. But she also realizes that sometimes you don’t have the time or money to do that. This is the next best thing.

All the computerized reports that we sell come with a copy of the chart, a list of points, and a discussion of the chart. Most of these reports are designed for natal (birth) charts; one is for locational planning, and one is designed for a specialized health chart called a decumbiture. The reports can either be sent e-mail (no shipping), or they can be sent if you wish to pay the shipping charge.

Please note: these reports do not come with any consultation time. If you wish to have Lee explain or elaborate on any of the material in the report, that is part of a delineation. Lee would recommend her budget half-hour reading in that case.

How to Work with an Astrologer

Copyright 2012, 2016 J. Lee Lehman, Ph.D.

Of course, I could simply suggest that all clients see an astrologer at least once a year, but that would be rather trite, yes? What I propose to talk about here are some of the larger themes that astrology can fit in to to help you manage your life, especially in these more interesting times.

Most clients visit an astrologer for the first time because something either isn’t working right in their life (like a relationship gone bad, or a job gone away), or to get a burning question asked. Hopefully, in either case, they got some good advice from the astrologer consulted, so they walked away, if not happy with the advice, at least satisfied that it was timely, accurate and appropriate. So what now? How much should you follow your daily horoscope on-line, and how often should you “see” an astrologer? The answer, of course is – it depends. What I propose to do here is discuss a little some of the kinds of things an astrologer can do to work with you to improve your life, your life choices, or at least, your expectations about either.

Natal Astrology

After the first consultation, most astrologers are used to consulting with their clients on an annual basis, to discuss what the client may expect in the upcoming year, based on the client’s birthday. The reason for the annual frequency is simple: there is a kind of chart called a solar return which occurs roughly on the birthday, which maps the major themes for the year. A year is a convenient unit of time for us: we are used to celebrating our birthdays, and it is long enough to encompass some level of planning. Almost all astrologers examine the transits (where the planets are on any date), as well as one or more other methods which can be conveniently mapped for a year. Some astrologers combine the examination of the solar return with a secondary service: picking the best place in the world to be to celebrate that solar return. In my book on solar returns, I work primarily with charts done for the birthplace, but I discuss a modern system that involves relocation combined with a little magic: a meditation/invocation to embed the influences of that new location. Why would you do this? If your solar return for your birth location looks especially negative or dangerous, you may want to attempt to minimize the effects.

I have a Question!

If you have never used horary astrology, you are missing out on a hugely wonderful astrological application. The natal chart paints themes: during this period, you may find it harder to get a job. During that period, you may want to move. But natal doesn’t address that particular house on Walnut Street, or whether to accept the job offered by that local company down the street, or from that large firm across town. Horary takes you to the precise question to want to ask.

I want to do Something!

Recently, I got a question from a client who wants to travel overseas for family business, but the place she wants to go could be dangerous for a foreigner. She wanted me to use electional astrology to pick the best date and time to leave for overseas to insure both her safety, and her success. But she did this in the traditional way: first she asked a horary question, Will I be successful in this trip? Then, once the horary had said yes, it was appropriate to go ahead and pick the time for the trip.

Electional astrology is used to pick the best time to do something: but it is important to realize that it cannot deliver what your birthchart will not allow. You cannot successfully elect a time to file to run for President of the USA if your chart doesn’t show success in high office – but also if you weren’t born in the USA!

Electional is often used to set up the time for a marriage, for surgery, for listing a property for sale. But thoughtful use can expand the possibilities so much more! I recently worked for a man who had been having terrible arguments with his ex-wife about child support, health care insurance. etc. I picked a time to meet with her to move the discussion out of recriminations and into substance. If a meeting is important to you, why not make sure it’s the best time to do it?

Your Yearly Update

For each child that’s born….

Your Yearly Update!

(Lee wrote the book on this too*)

“For each child that’s born
a morningstar rises and sings to the universe
who we are.”

Ysaye Barnwell

The purpose of a yearly update is to examine the specific natal trends for a particular year, and how it fits into the years around it. This type of consultation usually only occurs after the client has had a general natal consultation, although not necessarily with Lee. Lee examines your trends, not only from the standpoint of just the year in question, but also relating to the years immediately before and immediately afterwards. Lee believes that, very often, this placement in context is one of the most important things for people to understand about their immediate environment.

This consultation typically lasts about an hour by phone or VOIP. Lee will ask you for a series of questions related to your priorities for discussion, to insure that the topics which are most important to you are discussed.

Lee records you consultation through meeting software, so you can either phone in, or log in through your computer, tablet, or smart phone. The recording your receive will be an mp4 video recording.  It works best to have a headset/ microphone combination for your computer. This is especially great if you know astrology, and would like to also “look over Lee’s shoulder” while she does the consultation.

Planning (Electional)

Tell me when to do Something:
Electional Astrology

Text Copyright 2007, 2012, 2016  J. Lee Lehman

(And Lee wrote the book on electional too*)

Events have birth charts, just like you do. Events, however, are more fragile than people, who often show remarkable resiliency. The purpose to electional astrology is to align your intentions concerning an event with an astrological configuration that makes that intention as easeful as possible in practice.

Electing is like the difference between having head winds or tail winds: it may not control the absolute outcome, but it can make the journey simpler, faster, and easier. It can also reduce the worry factor.

What kinds of events are appropriate for electional astrology?

Marriages, moving in together, divorce hearings, beginning a job, beginning a job action, asking for a raise, opening a business, opening a new business location, listing a house, purchasing a house, moving into a house, beginning the construction of a house, surgery times, beginning a round of medical treatment, writing a letter to achieve a goal, moving, beginning a trip, or the purchase or sale of important goods.

What kinds of events are not appropriate for electional astrology?

Time to give birth to a child by caesarian section (except perhaps in general terms), timing to avoid getting caught at illegal acts, time to commit suicide, or the time for any trivial or ephemeral event.

Can I elect any time to do anything, as long as the planets agree?

Many electionals are actually times for doing something with legal ramifications. For example: if you open a business and elect to get a business license, it can only be done when the governmental agency it falls under will accept applications. If they allow for it on-line, then any time is good, but if you have to apply in person, then it has to be at an allowed time and day of the week. Or another example: different countries and different regions within countries have laws regarding marriage. A marriage would have to fall within the legal parameters for the location of the marriage. (For information about the laws of the different states of the USA regarding marriage, click here.) These rules must be followed for the election to have force.

Can electional astrology tell me anything about events which have already occurred?

It’s not called electional astrology, but event interpretation. However, the same astrological rules apply whether the event has already occurred, or has yet to occur. If you are interested in finding out about such a past event, the pricing is like horary.

Why do you have the horary special?

Sahl, one of the ancient Arabic astrologers, said it best: only the electionals of kings are powerful. What he meant is that the more powerful your social situation, the easier it is to get what you want accomplished. The rest of us are constrained by our circumstances: we have to deal with bosses, family limitations, and other matters. For the average person, it’s wise to find out whether what we want is feasible within the time interval we want to do it in. This can be done two ways: by asking a horary about the electional (like: will my business succeed if I incorporate at this time?), and then only proceed with the electional if the answer is yes. Or, the birthchart can be examined. Lee does this as part of the electional, and if there is a problem during a particular time, she will notify you.

What do you need to know in order to do an election for me?

  • I need to know what makes this event important to you: what you hope to accomplish. For example: if you are buying a home, are you purchasing it as your main residence, as a retirement home, in order to provide rental income, or as an investment?
  • I need to know your birth data, as well as that of the other parties (when feasible for you to get this).
  • I need to know surrounding circumstances: for example, is this elective surgery, or emergency?
  • I need to know who your regular astrologer is (if it isn’t me!), so we may consult if necessary.
  • I need to know when the event can take place: normal business hours, Tuesdays from 8:00 – 10:00 am, etc.
  • I need to know how long an event is (like a surgical procedure), if it isn’t a contract signing, or other such “instantaneous” event.

What can I expect an Electional Reading to be like?

It’s not like your typical natal reading. The main reason is that almost all the work is done before you see the results. Lee typically e-mails the selected dates and times, with an astrological explanation for why these are appropriate. Then, if you have any questions, you can either e-mail back, or set up a short consultation.

Note: unless specified otherwise, Lee will be giving you only one or two dates. If you need additional dates, there may be a charge, so if you have different expectations, please discuss them with Lee before you book your electional.

Is there anything different about electing for medical procedures?

Medical electional are a little different than other types. First, it’s very important to understand the purpose of a medical electional. There are two very different types: electing for a test, and electing for a (hopefully) therapeutic procedure.

When you elect a time for a test, the whole purpose of that electional is to get as accurate a diagnosis and reading of the results as is possible. The purpose of a test is not to get a desirable answer, but to get a true answer. In ther words, the primary goal of electing a test is not to have to repeat it because the results were inconclusive, and not to doubt the results.

When electing for a procedure, whether a surgery, purge, or medication series, the purpose is to match the procedure and person so that the maximal benefit possible and the fewest side effects can occur.

It is important to remember that medical astrology is not selecting your treatment protocol: your health care practitioner is, with consultation with you. If your goal is an aesthetically pleasing result from plastic surgery, the criteria for electing are different than if you are going to be taking chemotherapy. And speaking of chemo, I had recently elected for a gentleman to take his daily dose of a chemotherapy drug, and it turned out he was allergic to the drug – something that happens not infrequently. With the elections, fortunately, he noticed the side effects quickly, and his medical team switched his chemo drug quickly, and he had only very temporary side effects. Electional cannot force a drug to work for somebody, but it may ease the process, whether through the whole series of treatments, or a graceful exit from the protocol.

Horary Consultations

Answer my Questions:
Horary Astrology:
Lee wrote the book on it!*

Text Copyright 1996, 2004, 2007, 2016 J. Lee Lehman

Horary astrology is a part of one of the oldest branches of divination: that of asking questions. Normally, when we use the word horary, we refer specifically to the particular sets of rules for interpreting an astrological chart drawn for the moment of asking a question, a type of astrology also known under the Sanskrit name prashna. However, let us not forget that the urge of humans to obtain answers to important questions by divining, or asking the gods, is much older. Horary astrology in a sense is merely a technology for reading that divine answer, like the I Ching, or Tarot.

In Shang Dynasty China, the king would ask questions frequently, often involving the question of what sacrifice the gods wanted. In ancient Babylonia, all manner of omens – really, any deviation from business as usual, whether unusual birth, unusual weather, or unusual bird formations, as an opportunity to divine the message from the gods. As astrology gradually gained primacy as a method for reading the heavens, and hence the place of the gods, so it later became a preferred means of similarly reading the gods’ messages.

We all ask questions. Some of these questions are more important than others. What makes a question important? It’s not how much money is in question, or whether you really need to move. It’s whether you care more about knowing the answer than about what the answer is. Suppose you’re driving to work, and thinking about that new person you interviewed yesterday. You could be thinking, “I wonder if Jane would be good for the job.” Or you could be very impressed with Jane, and convinced that she could really help you with that next big project, so you say, “Will my company hire Jane?” The first is not a horary question, while the second one may be. A horary question is one in which the person asking the question really wants to know the answer. It is this serious interest which allows a horary astrologer to interpret the moment when the question is asked. Casual curiosity is not enough.

You can ask horary questions about:

  • Relationships
  • Buying or selling a house
  • Buying or selling any property that you really care about
  • A job offer
  • Moving (either for job-related or unrelated reasons)
  • A business proposal
  • Whether the car you’ve seen is a good one (or alternately, what’s wrong with it)
  • A health condition
  • Whether a particular doctor or other consultant will be able to help you
  • Whether you will get pregnant during a period of time
  • A lost object

The more personally you are involved in the question, the better it works in horary. The more specific the question, the better. If the question is about an event, like a job interview, it’s generally better to work with the date and time of the event, than with a question about the event. In this case, tell Lee about the event and its timing. If you don’t remember when an event was, you can still ask a horary about it. It’s just that the question may show less detail than the event chart itself.

You cannot ask horary questions when:

You have already asked the question before, either to another horary astrologer, or Tarot reader, I Ching reader, or using any other divinatory method. All of these methods share the admonition that you cannot ask the same question more than once. If you do, all attempts to answer the question after the first one will produce random results. This, by the way, is a good reason to ask questions with specific end date in mind. For example, if you ask, “Will I marry Bill within a year?” you do not preclude asking about Bill later. Generally, limiting your questions to some time period like a year is probably a good idea anyway, because all divinatory questions assume that the circumstances of your life will occur without much conscious effort on your part.

Now: if you asked a horary or other question, and you are not sure of the original reader’s answer, Lee can give a second opinion – but only by using the same date, time , and place of the original reading.

An e-mail exchange with Carla in Michigan:

> Thank you again, I love astrology, never miss a day without reading
> my horoscope on many different sites, but this is the first time I
> have been brave enough to take a chance on hearing an answer I might
> not be able to handle!

Well, congratulations on your bravery. I don’t think horary is really
about “not being able to handle it” so much as telling the universe
that you are willing to take the answer straight up. What you might
not be aware of is that there is actually a style of horary reading
where, if you have gotten an answer you really cannot accept, that
you can turn it around to examine what it would take for things to go
a different way. Now the thing is – what usually happens at that
point is that you decide that what it would take for things to go
otherwise is not a price you are willing to pay, but it can be deeply
instructive in examining exactly what the blocks are related to the
question.

Find My Birthtime!

For each child that’s born….

          • Ecclesiastes

“…and a time for every purpose under Heaven”

There are many methods based on the birth chart that require a fairly exact time. Yearly forecasts are difficult without a close time. Relocation is next to impossible without a fairly accurate time. For relocation, here’s a good way to think about it. The globe can be represented as 360º – but also as 24 hours. Astronomers actually use the 24 hour notation in their system of right ascension. If your time is off by four hours, then that’s 1/6 of the day. Thinking in terms of the circumference of the globe at the equator as being roughly 24,000 miles, each hour of error in the birthtime equals 1,000 miles. While those distances are less in the temperature zone where most of us live, you can easily see that an hour of error can make a huge difference in where a “line” (area of influence) would be. Suddenly, instead of San Francisco, you might be looking at Las Vegas!

Most astrologers are fairly comfortable adjusting a chart by 15 minutes plus or minus from the given birth time. This becomes fairly obvious in studying the person for a couple of years: predicted dates fall consistently early or consistently late.

But what if there’s a problem with your time that’s more than a few minutes?

  • Your birth certificate may not have a time on it at all. Different states have at different points changed their regulations about whether a time is recorded.
  • You may still be in luck: hospitals began to do early diagnostic tests on infants that require doing observation in the first few minutes of life: accordingly, you may be able to get access to hospital records of those measurements. But then, you may not have been born in a hospital.
  • Your mother may remember your time as considerably different than your birth certificate time. My own mother remembered my time as roughly three hours earlier than my recorded time.
  • There may be a problem with your birth record that obscures the time, such as a smudge on the original.

The process of studying life events in order to estimate the correct birth time is called rectification. Actually, the methods are very old, because astrologers seldom had access to accurate birth data, since clocks were often either unavailable, or the time was not recorded at the time. And thinking about the frequency of women giving birth five, ten, or fifteen times, how much could you trust her recollection decades later of one birth among so many?

Although the general techniques are very old, rectification is considered a specialty. This was often because it was so time-consuming to do, that many astrologers simply didn’t want the work. Now there are computer programs to help the scanning process – but the scan is only the first step. The resulting possibilities need to be checked, in order to propose a time with any confidence.

Here’s how Lee works. First, she will give you a questionnaire asking for biographical information, and the ten most important dates in your life. These might include: births of children, death dates of parents, graduation dates, traumatic events, medical issues, etc. She will ask about specific things in your life. She will then use these events to scan for likely times, and then check those times against astrological events drawn for those times using at least three entirely unrelated systems. If more than one time potentially checks out, she may send you some descriptions based on the “finalists” for your input. There is usually one or more rounds of follow-up questions once Lee has received the questionnaire.

One caveat: the smaller the range of time, the better the results are likely to be. Four to six hours or less is a good time range for doing this sort of work. Larger time intervals are likely to result in several possible times, and it may be difficult to extract only one. The longer the time range beyond six hours, the more time intensive this process becomes. Please check with Lee first if your unknown period is more than six hours, because an additional fee may be required.

Your Birth Chart

For each child that’s born….

Your Birth Chart!

          • Ysaye Barnwell

“For each child that’s born
a morningstar rises and sings to the universe
who we are.”

Sages of old observed the cycles of the planets and linked them with events on earth. The study of this phenomenon came to be known as astrology.

Since that time astrologers discovered that Astrology can be used as a tool to help you to understand the influences that constitute the ground of your life: parents, temperament, talents and skills; those areas where you have control – and those where you don’t.

A natal chart reading can show you how to learn, what sort of environment is necessary for you to work successfully, how you handle stress, what kinds of disease complexes are likely to be problematic for you, how you handle relationships, and what kinds of things you get out of either relationships in general, or those with specific people. That is the descriptive part of astrology.

And then you want to know, “But how is life impacting me – now, next week, next month, or next year?” Astrology can predict, but not absolutely. It can characterize the kinds of influences you are likely to encounter. It can characterize your habit patterns and something about the way that you think and make decisions. And perhaps best of all, astrology can help you to understand and to anticipate the duration of both the good times and the bad.

Because Astrology postulates that the cycles of the planets can mirror our circumstances, we have an ideal tool to examine the longer trends in life to see just exactly where you are in these processes and how you can find opportunities for birthing your free will. It’s a way which helps you to distinguish between the things you can change, and the things that would cost too much energy and time to change.

What is the birth chart?
The birth chart, or natal chart, is nothing more than a snapshot of the sky. It’s what you would see if you were lying on your back looking up at the sky at the very time and place of your birth. The info required to calculate the birth chart includes the month, day and year of your birth; the time of day you were born (as close to the exact hour and minute as possible) and the place of your birth.

Because each birth is a singular moment in a singular place, the chart reading is individual and tailored exactly to reflect your lifes current priorities, concerns and dilemmas, be they business,  personal, spiritual, or through your association within a community.

Natal astrology includes:

  • Forecasting for individuals, romantic and other relationships, personalized wellness regimes, vocational and educational guidance as well as personal goal setting.
  • Lifetime Financial Planning: We all have differences in the ease of financial success at different times of our lives. This consultation focuses on which methods of acquisition (earning, speculating, inheriting) work best, and when! Retirement planning is specifically addressed.
  • Career and Education: What do you find fulfilling in work, and can you really make money at the job of your dreams? Geared to where you are in your own career path, we can also examine educational methods, and which styles make it easiest for you to learn.

The Natal Chart Consultation is an introductory natal reading, which is typically a ninety minute session, generally by telephone or VOIP, where we engage in a conversation about your life, and its general trends. You will get the most out of this by letting Lee know in advance what areas of life are most important for discussion.

Self Care Hippocratic Consultation is an exploration of the temperament and other qualities of your chart that would have been used prior to the 19th century to create a unique life style plan, whether through diet, exercise, sleep patterns, or stress reduction – what would in the day have been called regimen. We will examine a roughly three year period to optimize how you can approach the coming events and stay as sane and healthy as possible.

If what you want doesn’t fall easily into these areas, contact Lee to design a custom format that will meet your needs.
